We will periodically be holding 101 classes specifically for beginners. Please reach out to find out when our next program will launch.

WFTDA Membership:
All CCD skaters are required to purchase WFTDA insurance directly from WFTDA.

Medical Insurance:
There are inherent risks that can lead to injury when playing roller derby and participating in CCD practices, scrimmages and bouts. Each participant is HIGHLY encouraged to carry personal medical and accident insurance as this sport can cause significant injury with very large expenses. CCD does not provide medical insurance for CCD skaters or participants.

Equipment:
Properly fitting protective gear must be worn at all times while on skates. The following is required and you will be unable to skate without the following:

● Helmet ‐ Skateboard or hockey type is acceptable.
● Protective Gear ‐ Wrist guards, elbow and knee pads.
● Mouth Guard ‐ Football standard mouth guard is recommended. Many of our skaters use SISU brand.
● Quad Skates ‐ Skates should be comfortable and well built. Properly fitting skate boots reduce the risk of injury.
o Wheels with a hardness rating of 88‐92 are recommended. Most quad derby skates use 8mm bearings.
● Tail‐bone protectors or butt pads are recommended.

Flight School:
New skaters are STRONGLY encouraged to attend 101 with CCD, but another option is Derby 101 class at RCR and/or Intro to Roller Derby at Oaks Park Roller Skating Rink to build basic derby skills. You are welcome to attend a derby 101 class, but can also learn basic skills at our regular practices.

Local Retail options:
Five Stride Skate Shop and Oaks Park Skate Shop are both great local options with knowledgable staff. There are a variety of other sporting goods stores where helmets and mouth guards can be found.

Online Retail options:
There are a variety of Roller Derby gear websites. Derbywarehouse.com is a great online resource and we have a discount code with them (Ask any member for the code). The staff at all of these places are very helpful and are available by phone to answer gear questions. You can often purchase “Fresh Meat” packages either in retail stores OR online to save some money and get you started.

League Code of Conduct:

Included in this is any use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco that can endanger spectators, fellow teammates, opposing skaters, or the skater themselves. Repeated or egregious violation of the Crow City Derby Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary measures being enacted which include but are not limited to single or multi-game suspension, skating suspension not to exceed 30 days, and/or termination of an individual’s membership or affiliation.
